progress is a good thing

I posted a bit ago about having Blake put his cup on the table instead of dropping it on the floor. Yesterday on more than one occasion I noticed his cup wasn't where it had been... so I went to get him to move it, and silly Mommy... I moved it to another table. I am finding that he is remembering more and more to put it on the table (or couch, or chair, or entertainment center... anywhere off the floor). This has made me proud. We just started working on this on the 14th of May and here it is the 22nd and he doesn't need to be reminded (for the most part).

The other thing that I've noticed a lot of progress with is cleaning up after himself. We have been working on this slowly... and getting there! I do not make him clean up his toys the minute he finishes playing with them, but if he is looking to switch rooms then we clean up. Yesterday morning he was playing with the lids to some of my pans while I was getting his breakfast ready. Well, he had to stop playing with them to have his breakfast. After he ate and pushed in his chair he went back to the lids. I figured he was going back to empty more out of the cabinet or continue to play with the lids on the floor... nope he went back to put away the lids. He opened the cabinet, put the lids on the right pans, closed the slider, closed then door and the looked at me and said... "all done"

It is so good to see his pride when he does things like that. It is funny to watch him clap for himself and say "yay!" when he has followed directions or remember to do something on his own. I am so proud of him when he does little things like remember to say sorry if he loses his temper, or decides to play too hard with the dog. I am proud to see my little guy growing up and showing that he has compassion and caring... and is only 18 months!

  5. That is awesome! I think I started teaching Tate to clean up around 16 or 17 months (??)...somewhere around there anyways - it only took him a week or two to catch on, and now...at 21 months he is a pro. :) It's amazing to see how fast they learn sometimes!
