Fashion Diva I am not!

I like to watch fashion shows (What Not to Wear, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, that sort of thing). I think it is fun to watch them tear apart someone's wardrobe, and who wouldn't love for them to show up and hand you money to buy all new clothes? As a mother, especially since I'm a stay at home mom, I find I spend money on my boys, but almost never on myself. I have had to purchase a few new shirts because this body is NOT fitting in my medium shirts right now... nope no way am I fitting in a medium shirt while nursing... anyway!

I will admit that I fit into that "mother" look category. I live in capri pants or shorts depending on the temp outside (I have real jeans on today because it's chilly!). Almost all (say 95%) of my shirts are plain t-shirts (you know what I'm talking about those dressy-ish pull-over soft comfy shirts). I wear sneakers if I actually have shoes on my feet. I dress for comfort! I'm on the floor, playing in the sandbox and getting spit-up on... so I can't justify spending money on clothes.

I do think every once in a while that I should go update my wardrobe, but there are somethings that are "in style" that I doubt would look good on me. One that Richard and I were talking about this morning was straight leg pants/jeans. I can't imagine seeing me wear pants that fall straight from the widdest part of my hips, and I don't have huge hips. I know I should just go try a pair... but why?

Me, I'll stick with my comfy clothes and just assume I don't look horrible. Since I highly doubt that Stacy and Clinton will ambush me, or that Tim and Gretta will show up on my doorstep. I will just admit... a fashionista I am NOT!

Are you a fashionista?

  2. I have to admit that my wardrobe has also seen better days. I definately would be a fashionista if it just didn't cost so much and was more kid friendly. Just finished watching the Sex in the City movie and I was drooling over the clothes, bags and of course the shoes!

  3. Hello there:

As a mother myself, I understand what your saying. However, as a Wardrobe Stylist & a Personal Shopper Consultant; I have to say that us moms really need to represent ourselves, our spouses, and our children well by not forsaking ourselves to be presentable (when we're out there running, doing chores/errands or chauffering our kids around). It's so easy to put ourselves last when we're so busy taking care of everyone else. We need to understand that we need to take our "me time" more seriously or we end up resenting ourselves or others when we let ourselves go. So, schedule in your quality time off to yourself at least once a week.

Just look around you, I'm sure there's someone you know or are acquainted with that's on the rebound, and are depressed for, letting themselves go and now find themselves trying to shed whatever it was they let go to begin with.

It is so vital as a wife and a mother to maintain our grooming habits for there are scavengers out there that are out on the hunt for married men. I dare say that this speaks volumes and you can come up with any conclusions you like. Therefore, we women need to understand that it was love and desire that brought our husbands to us so let's not forget to bless them by presenting ourselves and them well. We need to work hard at being their first love by looking great at all times, even when the baby pukes at us. It is not necessary to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.

So, get yourself together and find a way to look fabulous!

  7. I don't think I am up on the latest trends- I think I dress okay for work, but at home I am all about comfort. But I still don't know what is what is 'in'. I really wish Stacey and Clinton would show up with money for me though-- I could really use some new things :)

  9. I never used to be beleive me, but as my kids are getting older it feels really good to become more stylish. I am enjoying it and doing it without breaking the bank.

And my hubby love it! But when I was breastfeeding...t-shirts and jeans :)

  10. I have to dress up for work so when I'm at home I get as comfy as I can, as much as I can. :o)

  11. Whew, this is a tough one. I sure used to be.. I should say very business dressy by day.. Kids and work at home have changed all of that.

I think as mom's we should do the best we can, however, we do need to give ourselves a break and realize we can only be and do so much... I think if I am clean and neat, that is what matters... My husband kind of laughs when I am not looking my best.

I love to dress up when I can, the latest fashion trends are just really not my cup of tea... Having a hard time finding anything I feel comfortable in lately.

I'm with you, all for comfy...

  13. My wardrobe is a little "frumpy" IMO. I do like to watch WNTW...mostly for the haircut part, but I kind of wish I could get a wardrobe makeover too!

  14. Absolutely not. I'd love to live out my fashion dreams in my daughter if she'd let me, though!

I just don't have the sense, or the shape, or the money. I try, but I have more failures in my closet than successes.

  15. I love What Not to Wear. Good thing we don't get cable, or I would be watching that all the time... even though I hate clothes shopping... especially with two boys in tow!

  16. I am all about comfort and spend as much time in sweatpants and long sleeve T-shirts as I can. I wish school districts would learn what mommies have know for decades, working with kids requires comfy clothes. But since they seem to make us wear dressy stuff, I just did something I never do. Before this school year I spent a lot of money on myself. My wardrobe was soooo bad due to pregnancy, kids, no money, etc. So I bought a bunch of stuff. But I can't say I'm style'n in any way.

  17. I am all about the comfort too! Though I do wish I could wear some of the stuff that I see as trendy. And I would love to be part of a makeover. I'll nominate you..you nominate me!!
