teething... grrr!

Why is it that we as parents get so excited about things and then realize that hey... this doesn't actually make my life better? For example walking... we get so excited to see those first steps and then you realize... hey wait now they are mobile and I can't just sit them down and they will stay. (no Colby isn't walking... I'm so not ready for two going in two different directions... it was just an example of that OMG thinking!)

My latest thing to think about in this light is teeth. You get so excited to see those first tooth buds. How cool my itty bitty is getting his (her) first tooth. Then it takes FOREVER for it to break through the gum... oh yeah and it hurts them too. Ok, we seem to forget that when the second tooth comes in (unless like my kiddos they come in days apart... yes Colby got his 2nd tooth already).

But, Colby's teeth aren't really my issue... yes it bothered him a bit, but nothing that teething tablets and Motrin couldn't help. Actually with Colby for the most part a dose of Motrin before bed and we've been set.

Noooo Blake is the issue. When Blake got his first 16 teeth, we had no major issues... not even when he got his other 4 molars AND his 4 eye teeth in one month! He is getting his two year molars and it is kicking all of our backsides. He's is drooling something fierce (ok that he did with all his teeth), had a low grade fever (which spiked up to 101.5 the other night at 3am!), he is refusing to eat much. Yeah life isn't fun and I can't tell how the molars are doing as he won't let you in his mouth and you just can't see that far back just by looking.

I have a feeling that the teeth are part of his mood, his sleep issues and well everything that's going on... or at least I want to believe that so that it means that it will be done sometime soon!

A dose of Motrin and teething tablets are lifesavers here. And if that doesn't help I'm going to have to start using something stronger ... like Vodka (ok so I'll have to drink that myself not give it to him!)

  2. Rebekah always had multiple teeth coming out the same time ouch!!!! the only thing that help for her was putting frozen fruits in a mesh bag and letting her chew it!

  3. Caleb was bad with his first molars that came in. Had his hands in his mouth all the time and was drooling something fierce!!! He still keeps his hands in his mouth so I'm sure there's something else coming again.

I didn't think about that when you were having the sleep issues...at least there's a reason for it and now you know what you're dealing with. That always makes coping alittle bit easier!

  4. Oh man...I feel so bad for poor Blake. THat is no fun. I was so blessed in the teething department...I never knew that they were getting teeth. Other than putting their hands in their mouths. We only had to use the all natural teething tablets. Hoping that he busts those teeth through soon, so life can get back to normal for ya'll and he can start feeling better. Poor guy!

  5. I can imagine it is quite painful. Luckily E has been pretty good...we have never had to give her anything yet for teething. She just got all of her four year molars in-but I have heard that those two year molars can be horrific. Poor guy! and poor mommmy---I suggest shots od vodka for mommy!

  10. I'm with you- I can't wait for Riley to get all his teeth and be done with the teething business. When he got his bottom eye teeth (like Blake, he got 4 teeth in about two weeks)- he was so miserable and it was when he was biting me daily (okay, about ten times daily). Now those have broken through and he is much happier. My point is- I would completely beieve a lot of Blake's issues right now are related to getting his molars. If you can make it until those are in, things will hopefully get back to normal. Until then - keep that bottle handy (just kidding!)
