I think I may post my speech updates on Sunday... well this week anyway since I haven't made a scrapbook page (o:
Blake's Speech Therapist (ST) was impressed with his progress with signing. She was glad to see that we have begun more signs with him and that he is having little confusion with them. He is still not doing them completely independently yet, but that will come I know. The other thing she was please to see was that he is trying to say the word along with the sign which is the goal.
This week's homework for us is for us to enunciate one sound/syllable with each signed word. ST suggests that with "more" we focus on the /m/ sound, "please" /ee/ sound, bye /b/.
This week we are adding the signs for "milk", "water", "drink", "eat" as well as continuing the signs we began last week.
For the most part Blake is able to reproduce the sign and say something along with it. He struggles with "help", but has created a sign of his own that is similar to the ASL sign. We will still use the ASL sign to him so knowing him he'll figure it out eventually.
That's great Lori. I hope if continues to work so well.
ReplyDeleteI figured he'd make quick progress! I was amazed at how quickly Grady started showing progress with PT and OT. That's so great! I bet it helps him feel better too!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat is so great. I remember when my sister went through speech therapy, it was remarkable. She can still sign, after all these years, she does not need too, but it is something she picked up.
ReplyDeleteI also remember, fun games they played, for her to learn the sounds. Like blowing bubbles for the B. That is the only one that sticks out right now...
Have a great day.
Glad he is starting to understand ASL and he WILL get it. I find it amazing how well children grasp onto things. Blake will be improving before your eyes in no time :)

That's great that it's working out so well!
ReplyDeleteThat is just wonderful! I knew it would work :) He's a smart little boy, it's just getting all the parts to work together that gets tricky.
ReplyDeleteI love the sign for milk...it makes me giggle every time!
I'm so glad that things are going so well already!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. They catch on so fast to sign language. It always amazes me...they are such little sponges. Glad to hear it is going so well.
ReplyDeleteWe have started using sign language with our 1 year old because it worked so well with his older brother.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it worked a little too well because we can't ever get him to be quiet now!
That is wonderful he is really taking off in the signing department. Learning more words already! That is very encouraging.
ReplyDeleteYay for Blake! I am glad he's enjoying it too!
ReplyDeleteHe is doing great. I am glad to hear of his progress, very exciting!
