crib frustration

I got an e-mail from Babies R Us yesterday telling me that our crib is being recalled... oh great! I crawl under the crib to check the numbers and yes it is part of the latest recalls. The e-mail says to stop using the crib IMMEDIATELY... ok let me investigate this a bit more. I go onto the site for the crib maker and read the recall information and it is saying that the slats on the crib could break and then cause an opening which cause entrapment. Ok, I'm glad they are on top of things. Let me see what the next step of the process is....

I fill out the on-line paperwork and hit submit. Then I go on to read the letter that will come in the package they will send to use (no time frame given as to when it will get here). They are sending a package to us with the necessary tools and packaging to send them back parts of the crib to in essence prove we have the crib AND make the crib unusable. Ok... I'm still down with this. Here's the kicker.... in about 2-3 WEEKS after they recieve this we will get the coupon/rebate whatever and directions as to how to use it to purchase a new crib (and it is good only towards the purchase of a new crib)

OK people... what do you expect me to do with my son until then? Luckily my mom has a pack n' play that we will borrow for Colby to use, but I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that don't. Is it just me... or is that a long time to expect people to go without using their crib??

  2. Which crib?? I do think it's neat how they email you to let you know about these things.
there was a recall on the car seat Avery has - reasoning for it? ONLY because the yellow warning sticker was covered up by part of the headrest pillow thing....

  3. That does seem like a long time. Especially if they know which serial numbers are involved. Seems like a lot of extra work to me too.

I'm with Amanda though, at least they emailed you.

  5. The sad thing is that they know about these crib recalls months before they actually announce them to the public. I don't rrust cribs at all. They are going to stop making ones with drop sides completely pretty soon. Out of curiosity what brand is your crib?

  6. The people that do these things obviously do not have small children :)

  8. That is pretty silly. Do they expect him to sleep on the floor until they get around to getting it to you? :o(

  10. That is just crazy. You would think if they were doing recall they would be a bit more organized .

  11. That is a ridiculous amount of time to expect people to be without a crib.

Recalls on children's/baby products drive me crazy. These things need to be tested 100 per cent before they are put on the market.

  12. What a pain! Like a previous poster said, whoever is in charge obviously doesn't have kids. Just like the rules of teaching...the legislators that make them have NO idea what life in a classroom is really like. I hope Colby can get some good rest in the P&P until you can get his new crib. I am so sorry about all this. What an inconvenience!!

  13. That does seem a little long to wait for the replacement parts...I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that this places a hardship on! I hope the Pack n Play is amenable for Colby!

  14. It's an extremely long time since they told you to stop using it immediately. Although I may be a bad mom, I'd probably get my hubby to work on it and just keep using it. I know, slap me now.
