getting bigger

When I was a teacher, I always told the parents "I don't baby my kids".  Many parents had a major issue with this in the beginning of the year.  They said "but he's so little" "but he's not used to doing this" "but, he's so cute" yadda yadda yadda.  Then most realized that by treating my kindergartners with respect and setting the exceptions high, they grew up.  They grew into learners.  They were ready to take on any, ok most, challenges that were set forth in front of them. 

I know a lot of parents wish their children could stay little forever, me I love looking at how much they have grown.  Don't get me wrong I'm in no rush to be the mother of two teenage boys, but I don't want them to stay little forever. I want them to grow and learn.  To challenge themselves.  To get excited for the next adventure around the corner.  To see themselves as a person who can go and do and be. 

Now that Blake is in school 2 days a week, it is starting to set in how much he has developed in the last few months.  I love stepping back and looking at the new things that the boys can do.  Looking at how much they have grown up and getting excited for what is next.



 Blake loves to play with Monster Trucks now.  If given a choice he would watch Monster Trucks every time the tv was turned on.  Don't get me wrong he still watches cartoons and other kid friendly shows, but he is fascinated with the monster trucks... and yes he has his favorites


Blake got a bike from Santa.  He now knows how to ride it without any help.  He knows that he has to have on shoes and his helmet before he can ride.  He likes to ride the little bike that we bought for Colby too.  (Colby was fascinated with Blake's bike so we got one for him too)



One of the biggest changes I've seen is in his drawing.  He has gone from just scribbling to making things with a purpose.  Here's a picture he drew the other night of a person.  I thought it was pretty good, but I'm bias!
