pet peeve

I was just saying to Richard the other day, I can't believe I haven't blogged about this topic before... so here you go!

One of my big pet peeves it letting children pan handle at the grocery store. Come on you know what I'm talking about! You can call it asking for donations all you want, but what it truly is is pan handling. I hate being accosted by baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, cheerleaders etc... who are just asking you to give them money. I'm not crazy when they sell Girl Scout cookies or popcorn for the Boy Scouts either, but at least they are selling a product.

But when they just stand there with their hat/helmets/a jar or something asking you to give them money... come on!

I hate that we have gotten to the point where things are so expensive and schools are providing so little to the sports, but do you really think this is the solution? I always wonder how much they actually make doing this?

Are you a person who feels guilty and drops some money for them, or are you like me and say... ummm no! I will not support pan handling even if people "believe" it's for a good cause.

Ok... chime in!

  1. I don't like it either. I go to the store to shop, not to be bothered by people begging for money. Call me a party pooper or whatever, but it bugs me. At least sell a product or have a car wash and earn it. Just don't stand out there begging. I totally agree with you.

  2. You go! I hate that too. Where we are, there often are adults who stalk parking lots, mostly Walmart, asking for money for their "outreach" programs. Ummm...maybe it's legit, but if you look like a crackhead, I'm gonna err on the side of caution and assume you are and I am not about to open my purse anywhere near you. Plus, in these days, I almost never have cash anyways. Gott love debit cards!

  3. I loathe that! It doesn't happen too often but it may be that I avoid going to the grocery store on Saturdays. Do some legitimate fundraising!

  5. I don't like it either! I don't give anything, it's so irritating! I'd be a lot more likely to give something if they were actually selling something.

  6. I don't like it or agree with that either. There has got to be better ways for them to raise money. They can actually do something to earn it.

  7. I never buy anything from people selling in front of the grocery store. And I usually only buy things (cookie dough, etc) from kids that I know when they come to my door.

I just don't have the money to support other people's kids in their extracurricular activities!

  8. I have never seen that!! crazy!

My little girl is a scout (for one more year) and I hate the cookie sales... but at least most people love them and they really sell themselves.. =)

whats worse is HOW many fundraisers the schools ask us to do... INSANE! Sheesh!! My daughters school does fundraisers every other month... it is ridiculous!! I throw most of them away... and the others I buy one thing from them!
