I learn through watching and doing

Blake is a super inquisitive little boy. My concern is people are going to hear our stories about him and think he a "trouble maker" Even as an infant you could see Blake observing and studying how things work. He wanted to walk before he crawled... I watched him watch people walk and study how it was done. He has watched and learned how to open all the doors, even some that are "baby proofed". He climbs up to get to the umbrella on the patio table because he's watched me open it. I know some of the climbing is just nature, but some is from him watching me stand on chairs or the bottom shelf of the cabinet to reach things (hey I'm vertically challenged I can't help it!). He knows how to switch the laundry, push the lawn mower, open the fridge, and many other things.

He loves to explore and is doing it to understand the world around him. Even if it means taking a container of sour cream off the counter to check it out and then smear it everywhere. He isn't doing it thinking hmm what can I do now to get attention. He's thinking hmmm what is this and how do you use it?

  1. he is a curious guy! And learning so much every day! I often have to remind myself that the messes my kids make are because they are learning and exploring- not trying to drive mommy crazy.

  2. this is one of the best ages because they do look to you as their parent to teach them!! Avery is the same way...and trust me, they watch you more than you even realize. Avery grabbed my deodorant the other day and put it up to his underarm region and started rubbing it back and forth (thankfully the lid was on) - I guess he has been watching me! Don't worry, anyone who has kids knows they are not trouble makers on purpose at this age - just the stage of exploration!!! Enjoy it - it sure can be funny!!!

  5. He is certainly a curious little guy! i think Eliza will be the same way..alwasy doing and geting into things. I think that is much better than a child who doens't display much interest or curiosity in others.

  6. I totally get it. Lyndsy is 3 and she is still that way. Even when she is in trouble it's not from doing anything awful, it's just from trying to figure something out that she is just too little for yet. Blake is a curious creature just trying to figure out the world he lives in. Good for him.

  7. Ahhhh yes seeing is doing the things that mommy and daddy do!! At least he will know how to stand on a chair LOL!!! You must just love to watch him learn, explore and grow isn't it amazing??? Especially when they are your own children.

  8. I think I see similarities to Esme! I keep wondering how to balance my desire to keep her safe (and secondarily keep the house in reasonable order) with the desire to fuel and not crush her exploratory nature . . .
