tv movies

Ok, I've been on a tv posting kick lately, but this one has nothing to do with the boys... lol!

Lifetime recently showed four new Nora Roberts movies. Now, I love to read Nora Roberts books, actually I read her JD Robb books too. So, I often watch her movies when they are on tv. One of the movies they showed was High Noon which I just finished reading last month, so yes I realize it was fresh in my mind. But, it really bugged me how many details they altered in the movie. If you have ever read Nora Roberts, you will know that she is very descriptive in not only the situations, but also with the characters. So, when they alter the characters it bugs me, but not as much as when they totally alter some of the senerios that took place in the book. Now, don't get me wrong so I expected to be altered because well they would have been very graphic to put on tv, but still...

I'm not going to stop watching the movies, but it just reminds me more why it is so much better to read the books!

Do you like to watch movies based on books? Do you prefer to read the book first or after?

  2. I hate when they change everything for the movie. I prefer to read the book first and then see the movie but most of the time it's different and it just ticks me off :) I saw one of her movies on lifetime a couple of weeks ago..it was the one with leann rimes in it but i don't remember the name.

  4. hmm that is difficult. I do find in most cases the book is ALWAYS better. Sometimes if at all possible I try to read the book first, but then I end up getting disappointed because certain aspects in the movie have changed.

But in some cases For example - I read all the harry potter books first then watched the movies and they were quite similar to the books which made me happy.

Then there are the Lord of the rings books - which I still haven't read lol but the movies were good.

Currently I just finished the Twilight book and found it was right on with the movie but now Im reading the rest of the books. But I am sure by the time the second movie "New Moon" comes out in Nov. I will have forgotten majority of what I read. sry long response

  7. I find that if I watch a movie, after I have read the book, I am looking foward to what is next, and how they changed it. It really bugs me when they have changed it, but I do pick them up. Also, after reading a book, I have a picture of the main character in my mind, and then I see a movie and always think of that character as the actor, not the person that the writer so diligently described. It does bug me.

  8. I am in the must read the book first camp. I am often not happy with movie versions. I was so upset with the Eragon movie that I had to turn it off.

  9. I have a hard time with this. Almost every book has been a movie after I read it. There's a few that I watched the movie and thought that I had better read the book now. The book has always been better!!

  10. I don't often watch movies if I have read the book for very similar reasons as you stated. even when the book isn't very specific, I have already put an idea in my mind on what the characters look like, etc and that is the way I like it. So....if I do watch the movie, I like it to be after I read the book, otherwise, it seems to influence the mental pictures I make when I read.

  12. I like reading the book first. I'm often disappointed by the movie, though. But, I do like to see how others interpert the book to make the movie.
