Schedule Changes

Sometimes you have to take a step back and admit that things just aren't working. I did that recently with our routine at home. Things sort of got mixed up after the boys changed their nap schedules. I was struggling at the time trying to find some kind of balance between giving them what they need and finding time to do the things that need to get done in the house, and maybe carve out a bit of time for me. I let things slide, I let routines slip... and a result was many unhappy people in the house. Don't get me wrong... my boys are pretty well behaved. They aren't perfect, but who wants perfect kiddos? Things were just not smooth anymore. The days were unorganized and that isn't what is best for kids.

This weekend I got to the point where I decided it was time to make some changes. I sat down with a pad of paper and wrote out a flexible schedule. Things seem to be going well today, but it's only day one!

New schedule:
wake up
breakfast
say bye to Daddy
tv
walk around the block
playtime with Mommy
outside time
baths
lunch
Colby Nap
Blake alone time with Mommy,
Blake computer time (alone time for Mommy)
snack
Project with Mommy
outside or free play
tv while Mommy makes dinner
Dinner
play with Daddy
Thomas
bed

Today we didn't watch tv in the morning so we went on a longer walk and I weeded the front yard (oh joy!)... I feel that if we have some kind of schedule then we can feel more on track. We will see how it goes

  1. Good luck on spicing up the routine. I think when the kiddos are a little younger that is really important. Now that mine are 8 and 5 it is a little less routine but we still have strick bed times!!!

  4. I love schedules and so do kids! Sounds like a great game plan- you know it doesn't have to be strick and ridged, but a framework for the day. Seems like you have that! Sorry I haven't been around more- hopefully I can start stopping by your blog more again!

  9. Scheduling is always tough. I, like you, like to have a "set" schedule. It is hard sometimes though. Hope this one works out for you.

  10. I am a huge fan of scheduling. Were big on it too and sometimes you do have to move some stuff around and it works. I wish you the best.
