Today is the first day of the Christmas countdown. The scary thing for me is I have NO shopping done yet. People who know me are probably shocked by that statement as I usually have most done before Thanksgiving. Oh well life gets in the way of getting ahead sometimes. I haven't even figured out what to get everyone which maybe part of the reason I haven't done any shopping. Or maybe its because it's tough to get to the stores with a 3 year old and an 18 month old? Or maybe it's because Blake is starting to really get into Santa and I don't want to spoil things by buying Santa gifts with him around? Or... Or... Or...

We opened our first book today. It was Mother Hubbards' Christmas by John O'Brien. This is a cute rhyming story based on Old Mother Hubbard's rhyme. The relationship between Mother Hubbard and her dog is rather interesting in this version.

We put our first magnet on our new Christmas countdown that I got at Hallmark. It is a magnet that looks like a cookie sheet that has the numbers 1-25 on it. It came with 25 magnets that are shaped like Christmas cookies... could I get a better countdown for my guys??

The boys also finger painted with red and green today. I will cut the papers into stocking shapes and later this week we will glue cotton on the top and write their names on them. We are making two for each boy as Richard will take one from each into work too. (I try to have the kids make a new art project for each holiday for him to hang in his office)

What did you do today to get ready for the big day?

  1. I am a new follower! Your blog intrigued me as I have a teaching credential but am working as a receptionist because California and the economy are making it next to impossible for me to get a teaching job. My credential expires in 2012 and am looking forward to having children before the new school year starts. Also kicking around the idea of being a stay at home mom. Do you worry about your return to work? Do you think it will be easy for you to find a job again?

  2. I, like you, do NOT want to drag the boys to the store! It's so exhausting. But then Saturday rolls around, the day I can actually get out shopping alone, and I don't want to go...it's too busy and I'm too tired! So, I have done a lot of online Xmas shopping this year! It's fabulous!

  3. What a fun mom. I am sure the finger paintings turned out great.

  4. I actually have almost all of my shopping done which is soooo not like me. Guess we switched places this year.

I haven't done anything for decorating, etc. In fact my daughters advent calendar is still packed in the attic. Guess I should really get that down tomorrow.
