new trees

Many of you commented on my picture yesterday. I figured I'd explain what you actually were looking at. Over the summer we got information in the mail from the Arbor Day Foundation. By joining the Arbor Day Foundation for $10, you get 10 free trees (or you can donate 10 trees to the Nation Forests).

Around Christmas time, we recieved a bag that had sticks in it... yep that's it sticks. You plant the sticks, most with roots. We were concerned that they would have froze with the many cold days we had in the beginning of January.

The picture you say yesterday was taken on January 20th. At this time, four of the trees have grown leaves. I'll have to take another picture soon so you can see the little leaves on the sticks.

We will have to transplant the trees into ground soon and hope they grow into big trees. The Arbor Day Foundation guarantees the trees so if the other ones don't start to bud soon they will replace them.

I'm not being paid for this post, but I do believe that it is a good cause. We actually ordered flowers from them too and are waiting for those to arrive. If you are looking to get some baby trees for your yard... it's work looking into this plan. They pick trees that will do well in your area.

  3. My yard isn't big enough for 10 trees, but we did grow a tree from a little stick. In four years it went from a stick to being taller than our house!
