sleep... what's that?

Colby is doing great for the most part. We went to the dr's yesterday and he now weighs 8lb 3oz which is 2oz over his birth weight (which I thought was good... but then again it took Blake more than a month to get back to his birth weight so what do I know?)... sorry long story on that rant and one I won't bore you with lets just say his dr is on vacation so I had to see one who doesn't know me or my guys!

Anyway! My poor little guy is still dealing with gas issues. Which makes sleeping no so fun. He still hasn't learned to self soothe and isn't crazy about the pacifier. So for the last 2 or 3 nights now I've been up past midnight with him trying to get him to settle down. He starts to fall asleep, I put him in the bassinet and you'd think I put him down on a pin or something... scream and cry! We are working on it!

Last night Richard took Colby out to the living room and Richard slept on the couch with Colby on his chest so I could get some sleep. You don't realize how easy it is with one because with Blake I'd sleep in, and nap throughout the day... yeah well with 2 I have to be up and functioning to take care of Blake. And napping during the day can only happen during Blake's nap time if Colby is sleeping too. Anyone have some toothpicks I can borrow??

Oh well... we will see what tonight brings

  1. Oh Lori! I feel for you! I don't know if you were reading my blog when Riley was born- but we had the same issue. He was not a good sleeper and I would be up with him all the time. Exhausted and worn out, trying to face 2 kids. And mine NEVER slept at the same time at that stage. Now I have been able to get them on the same time frame for the afternoon, but not when Riley was just a few weeks (heck, who am I kidding, it went on for MONTHS). I am not trying to scare you or discourage you. Not at all. I am just trying to let you know I understand and I feel for you. I wish there was something I could do to help. Riley never took a pacifier. I hated it because he could not sooth himself. I often walked the floors at night and would cry with him because I was just so tired.

I will be praying that sleep and rest come your way and that you can get some nights of calm and sleep. I will be thinking of you!

  2. I'm sorry sleep is scarce for you. I know that I only have one but I do feel your pain on the sleeping issues. Gianna had issues for her first 6 months. Once the colic and gas issues calmed, she simply didn't want to sleep. She wouldn't take naps and she wouldn't sleep at night. So even though I only had one to take care of, I was still very sleep deprived and found it difficult to function at times. I'm thankful for you that you have Richard to help you, that is a blessing!

  3. I remember those days very well, it was about then I decided that 2 kids was plenty.

It's tough but it does go by fairly quickly, I promise!

    Hang in there :-)

  5. I totally understand your sleep dilemna! Emily is having gas issues as well - and won't sleep well at night - she usually ends up sleeping in bed with us just so I can get a bit of rest at least!! And yeah...nap time is out the window...unless they both happen to miraculously nap at the same time!! I think I need some toothpicks too. ;)

  7. My husband and I did that same method for sleep . . . I took the "early shift" until maybe 2:00 am and then hubby would come out in the living room and sleep near our baby until it was morning. For the first 6 or 8 weeks, he'd only sleep in his bouncy seat!

You'll get through it . . . you CAN make it! Hang in there!

  8. I feel your pain on the two kids thing. I too slept in etc. with only one but couldn't with 2. I know with Jillian, I spent many a night hanging over the edge of the bed 'sleeping' with my finger in Jillian's mouth because besides nursing it was the only thing that would soothe her. I did get both of my girls to eventually take pacifiers but it took me buying one pack of every kind that I could find. Trust me it was worth the money!

  9. awe! Hang in there. I can't even imagine doing it and yet I am thinking of trying for another baby when Eliza turns one. I hope they get on the same schedule soon so mommy can get some good rest in.
