Playing outside
As a teacher I used to tell the parents the first week of school... dress your child to play outside everyday. We will be going out unless the weather is really bad! I then went on often to explain what dressing to play outside means, for some reason parents don't always understand that frilly dresses and sandals make climbing and running very hard! Now, for all you parents of little girls, I have/had no issue with dresses (I did encourage parents to have their daughter wear shorts underneath), but would rather see slip ons, or buckle shoes rather than sandals (yes even her in FL).
Blake LOVESSSS to play outside. If he had a choice, I think he'd stay out for hours on end! Most of my best pictures are of him running and playing outside. I know there are parents who do not take their little ones outside and I just don't get it. Blake loves to play in the grass. He brings out his wagon and some of his trucks, but would be just as happy to run around and look at the birds, the sky and feel the wind blow his hair.
There is so much learning that takes place when he plays outside. He learns the colors when we talk about the things that he sees. He learns that sticks should not be chewed on even if Abby does! He is very good at listening when I ask him to put things down and /or not put them in his mouth. He knows where the doors are on both sides of our screened in porch and tries to open them (he has a ways to go with that since the latches are over my head!) He hears the birds and other animals playing and we talk about them as he listens.
Oh and don't forget the best benefit... exercise! What is better to wear out an energetic toddler than to run and run and run and run????

What a cutie. You oughta get a good nap out of him today. :)
ReplyDeleteyou'd think, but instead he pretty much decided to not nap today... oh well he still stayed in his crib for 1.5 hrs already (ok he cat napped I didn't leave him in their awake the WHOLE time... I'm not that mean)... he is often content to just read and play and watch the fan
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable:)
ReplyDeleteLori, he is so stinkin' cute, I could eat him up. He reminds me of my boys when they were little, only he has tonnes more hair.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I LOVE your new banner. How did you make it?
Thanks so much for the kind words. He is sleeping now and we are off to the doctor in an hour. Blogging is the quietest thing I could find to do :-)

So adorable! You are making me so envious of that beautiful weather.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about girls and dresses. My school has uniforms now but the girls never have shorts on under their skirts and they don't want to sit on the carpet!
Yes, outside time is definatley key!! I see it at school today was RAINING and the kids were HORRIBLE. So outside time is a wonderful, relaxing time to have FUN and EXERCISE!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it so hard to get parents to dress their kids for outside time? I still run into that issue in 2nd grade.
ReplyDeleteBlake is so cute!
avery loves the outdoors too! I just wish it was warmer here! looks like he had fun...and avery will skip his nap like that too!
ReplyDeleteI made my banner using photoshop elements, and some of my scrapbook stuff
ReplyDeleteLittle girl clothes are way cute . . . but way impractical. I was a total tomboy and still remember how resentful I was of my dresses and sandals!
ReplyDeleteOh, and your kid is way cute.
I agree...being outdoors and taking your little ones outdoors is SO important! Tate LOVES it too...but it just stinks during winter because when it's SO cold and snowy/windy etc. we can't go out much because he'd freeze! I would too! haha. But thank goodness that it's almost spring!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteAnd your blog looks fabulous. Congrats on the bloggy bling, too!
YUP!!! Ben is really digging running around outside, too. I love that he wears his energetic bunny self out!
