My baby girl

(Make sure you check out the new poll too!)

Ok yes, I know I only have sons, but I do have a baby girl... Abby. For those who don't follow my blog regularly Abby is my dog. She is a shiba inu, which is a Japanese breed. I have had Abby since she was a few months old, and since she will be 9 in June... that's a long time.

Abby is not at home today. Nope, she is at the vet's. Back in Dec, she had a minor tear in her back left knee. Last week, it seemed that she re-aggravated the tear, but we decided to watch a bit and see if she was just favoring her leg. Over the weekend we realized that she HAD to be seen by the vet. So after a bit of schedule juggling, I took Abby to the vet yesterday morning.

She was seen by the head vet who decided that most likely Abby had ruptured the ligament in her knee. This was not new to us, she did the same thing on her right leg 4 years ago. So, the decision was made to leave her at the vet, and get her knee fixed that day. I called the vet after 3 and found out that the surgery was successful and she had done well. She was resting while being pumped up with pain killers.

We will pick her up Thursday afternoon. It should be interesting to see what the boys think of Abby wearing a "lamp shade". And, trying to confine Abby and keep the boys away from her injured leg should be interesting. But, at least she will begin to feel a lot better and soon!

sleep

wow seems like sleep posts are popular with me lately... wonder why??

Last night I expected to be up with Colby (ok yes I was up with him at one point), but I was up twice with Blake and once with Abby.

Blake was fussing around 10:30pm(right after I went to bed of course). I couldn't figure out why, but I comforted him helped him find his pacifier and he settled back down. Ok fine lets go on from here...

Abby woke me at 11:57pm. Colby was stirring and making noises so I'm sure that was her issue more than anything. I gave her a bone and went back to bed.

Blake began fussing again at 1:13am. This time I was more concerned because he was still more than half asleep but super unsettled. I stayed in his room for over a half an hour trying to figure out what the issue was. I finally got some Vick's VapoRub (yes there was a little left after the fiasco) and that seemed to help.

I got back to my room... laid down and Colby woke up to nurse. Ok... so I feed, burp and change Colby. So now it's almost 3am and I finally get back to sleep.

Oh and then Colby woke up again at 5:30am

Blake didn't wake up until 7:30 and is already down for his nap... hopefully it's longer than yesterdays 10 min nap.

I know with Blake the worse he naps the worse he sleeps at night... the worse he sleeps at night the worse he naps

PLEASE someone help him have a long restful nap so I can sit down and rest... and then get sleep tonight!

Anyone else want to have a meltdown right now?

wow that wasn't fun! Blake, Abby and I were having a great morning. Blake slept until 8:10, then when he got up he wanted to read a bit before getting dressed. We then had breakfast and went for our walk. After that we played on the computer (a big treat for him). Things are great... things are fine. Ok lets make ice cream. So I get everything ready and put him up on the counter to help me... he had a blast!

Then things went downhill from there!

Abby saw a cat in the backyard... ok now she is flipping out so I go let her outside. And Blake went and started playing. Super, ok timer is set for the ice cream to finish... Blake is playing and Abby's outside

Beep, beep, bark, bark, scream, beep, beep

ok who first? I look at Blake and he is trying to get Abby's treats off the counter... simple out of site out of mind... yeah not with Blake! I look at Abby she has wrapped her whole run around the tree... beep beep beep... I look at the ice cream... yeah it has to be dished up now and frozen.

Ok... I decide to ignore Blake (he is fine he just wants dog treats), I go unwrap Abby from the tree (in fear she will pop herself from her collar... that wouldn't be good) But, of course she won't come in.

I go and turn off the timer and start dishing the ice cream... here Blake up on the counter to help mommy... yeah that was fine until I was about 1/3 done and he wanted to climb over the counter.

Ok off you go! ice cream is dished... here do you want the bowl... nope He's back trying to open the drawer that I put the dog treats in. Oh guess what... Abby's tangled around the tree again!

grrrrr!

I finally dragged her in... tried to get him to stop crying... nope I don't want to calm down. fine I'm going to wash dishes!

I think it took him 15 min to totally calm down..... all over dog treats!

Friday Video

first off... yes I know it is Thursday. But, I have my 3 hour glucose tolerance test tomorrow morning at 7:30 and figure I'll be wiped out after that. I don't tolerate being without food for long stretches (pregnant or not) never mind a 12 hour fast followed by 3 hours of no food or water!

Just a few other updates... Blake is sleeping a bit better we will see how tonight goes... last night he woke up every 2 hours. Man I just want these last few molars to finish breaking through so life can go back to normal! Richard went and had his physical therapy evaluation and his range of motion in the arm he broke his collarbone of is the same as his other arm (yay!)

ok... here's a cute Blake and Abby video for you all to enjoy

Playing outside

As a teacher I used to tell the parents the first week of school... dress your child to play outside everyday. We will be going out unless the weather is really bad! I then went on often to explain what dressing to play outside means, for some reason parents don't always understand that frilly dresses and sandals make climbing and running very hard! Now, for all you parents of little girls, I have/had no issue with dresses (I did encourage parents to have their daughter wear shorts underneath), but would rather see slip ons, or buckle shoes rather than sandals (yes even her in FL).

Blake LOVESSSS to play outside. If he had a choice, I think he'd stay out for hours on end! Most of my best pictures are of him running and playing outside. I know there are parents who do not take their little ones outside and I just don't get it. Blake loves to play in the grass. He brings out his wagon and some of his trucks, but would be just as happy to run around and look at the birds, the sky and feel the wind blow his hair.

There is so much learning that takes place when he plays outside. He learns the colors when we talk about the things that he sees. He learns that sticks should not be chewed on even if Abby does! He is very good at listening when I ask him to put things down and /or not put them in his mouth. He knows where the doors are on both sides of our screened in porch and tries to open them (he has a ways to go with that since the latches are over my head!) He hears the birds and other animals playing and we talk about them as he listens.

Oh and don't forget the best benefit... exercise! What is better to wear out an energetic toddler than to run and run and run and run????

A non-Blake scrap page

Ok... here is another one of my scrapbook pages:

It is a page made of our dog Abby. Abby is a 7 year old Shiba Inu... yes she looks like a fox! (I've included a full color picture of her too since I entered that page into a b/w challenge
