I love my husband

I don't often post about Richard, but he is certainly on my mind today. Today is his first day at a new company. He decided back in the early fall that the company he was working for wasn't pushing hard enough in the direction of his program so he began a search for a new company. He found a company that is breaking into the area that Richard likes to work in. In the process many other employees over and under Richard have moved over to the new company too.

Enough about that, Richard's job is just a small part of him. He is a loving and devoted father. Richard goes out of his way to make sure he spends a bit of time with the boys each day especially on the weekends. He is part of their daily lives. It is hard when he has to work late, but tries to be home to play games and read stories each night. On the weekends he likes to ride bikes, play basketball, dig in the sandbox, or just hang out on the couch with them. He likes to show them how to do the things he loves, building in with legos or wood, working on the car, fixing the bikes and of course computer stuff.

I love to watch the three of my guys interact, nothing makes me smile more. I also love the fact that when he is home he tries very hard to help me get done the little and big things I do each day. He helps in the kitchen, does chores around the house and takes care of the dogs. Every night he walks the dogs before bed and spends time playing with Dixie and scratching Abby.

I'm not sure he realizes how much I notice or that I even notice that he does all these things, but I do. I'm grateful each day that I met him and that we both realized we are made for each other.

Happy Birthday Richard

What a busy weekend. I have pictures of Blake's birthday party to share, and will get to that tomorrow. I have a new recipe that we made for tailgating that I'll share on Tuesday. I'm working on my "J" pictures to share still too.

But, I wanted to take a few minutes tonight to say Happy Birthday to my best friend, Richard. Yep, it's Richard's birthday, and it often gets over shadowed by Blake's birthday. This year we ended up having to reschedule Blake's birthday for today and it was on Richard's birthday. Oh well.

I can say that I am glad to share today with Richard. It is such a joy to have him in my life. He is an awesome father to both the boys and a loving husband. I enjoy spending time with him doing most anything, but especially laughing. It is so cool to watch him play with the boys and help them grow into strong men.

I can't wait for another year with my guy!

What a dayyyyy

New poll on my sidebar... make sure you put in your thoughts!

All I have to say is 4:45am is way toooooo early! What a day. We got up showered and dressed. I then had to get up both boys and get them dressed. They did better than I expected, although I thought Blake might fall off the toilet since he was barely half awake at that point. Richard finished packing and we piled into the car. The boys had fun bringing Daddy to the airport. The whole way Blake was very chatty in the car. He really liked going up the parking garage and was fascinated when we got to the top. "Wait we're on the roof?" We stayed with Richard until he got through security. We then wandered around the airport for a minute because the boys wanted to see the Sea World and Disney Stores (from the outside of the store as they weren't open yet). We then headed back to the car and home. I missed my exit on the way home (to my credit it is a brand new exit so a new route for me) so we got to go on extra long drive home... oh well. When we got home both boys said "Daddy's truck... Daddy's truck". I said "Yes, that's Daddy's truck, but Daddy's not home. Do you remember where Daddy is?" Blake's answer made me laugh... he said "He's in line". Well we did leave him in line.

Later I got a text from Richard saying there were mechanical issues on the plane and even though they had already boarded, they hadn't left and might be there until 10 (this is an 8:15 flight). I heard back from him a bit after 10. Yeah they didn't have the right part to fix the plane and had to wait for it to be flown in from Atlanta. Sooooo, he was getting switched to a different flight. This one would not take off until noon. So now he went from arriving at 10:57am to not leaving until 12?

I heard from him around 4:45 he had JUST got to his hotel. And, what makes it worse is he still had to go into work. CRAZY. I guess what is sadder is the fact that he commented that today was less stressful than his last few days at work.

Things went pretty smooth here. Both boys were super tired tonight so as I type this at 6:30pm they are both sound asleep and have been for a good 10-15 minutes. Hmmm don't think that will happen again tomorrow.

Today's goals:
--get up way too early to take Richard to the airport. I decided that I want to get the boys up early so they can take Daddy to the airport. Then we will also pick him up next week. (check... as mentioned above)

--go to the grocery store to shop for the week (check)

--have Blake sign the cards for his teachers (check he wrote his own name and the names of the teachers on the outside of the envelope... it's a mess, but hey he did it on his own)

--maybe go to the gym again... this depends on how Colby is feeling and how tired they are after getting up really early... we will see (if I don't do this I won't be super disappointed) (yeah nope! It would so have not been a good day to do this for many reasons)

--look for a room darkening curtain for Colby's room. We have one in Blake's room, but not Colby and he sooo needs it now. (looked on-line and have a few thoughts. I can't decide if I want to get him new drapes or just get liners... I'm leaning towards the latter as I like the ones that he has already)

--survive day one of single parenthood... not sure how real single parents and military parents and such do it all the time (ummm check I guess)

Tomorrow's goals:
--get up early and do p90x (not going to go to the gym as Colby's cough was bad tonight and I hate having people look at him like he's going to make them sick... he's not! My boys have my cough which is a chesty cough that is really loud even when it's not bad... it's just the way it is)

--bring Blake to school for his last day at that center (remember to bring the cookies, week's tuition (that I forgot on Tuesday), change of clothes, cards... then remember to bring everything of his home again when I pick him up)

--do something fun and alone with Colby, not sure what, but he needs some mommy time.

--clean all 3 bathrooms

Back on track

I decided to get back on my goal planning wagon. I stopped for a bit because Richard was traveling, Blake got sick, Colby got sick, life got crazy... you see where this is going?

Granted Richard is getting ready to travel again very soon, and this time will most likely be gone for 8 days. Yes, I said 8 days. I will not go crazy. I will not pull out my hair. I will spend time loving my guys and enjoying my alone time. Maybe I'll do some digi-scrapping at night? Maybe I'll make a new layout for my blog (although I do like this one for some reason)? Maybe I'll catch up on all my tv shows that are DVR'ed? Maybe I'll get up early and workout? We will see how it goes. But, first we have to find out when he will be leaving.

Back to goals:
--vacuum the house
--make baked pretzel crusted chicken for dinner
--pack Blake's change of clothes for school (it got sent home on Thursday)
--clean off the peninsula in the kitchen
--get the boys back into their routine (just in time for it to change again next week... more on that later)

a great benefit!

I kid Richard all the time about being a computer geek. Well it does come in handy quite often. The other day was one of those times. I thought I had uploaded the pictures off my camera onto the laptop. Usually I do not delete the pictures off the camera until I have edited them on the computer. Not this day, I unplugged the camera and then deleted the pictures. I then went back to the laptop to edit the pictures... and they were not there. Richard had re-installed my Kodak Easy Share in order to get the videos to work on my laptop (ok yet again having a computer geek helped). I didn't notice that the computer was waiting for the command to download the pictures.

So, I freaked out... a whole weekend's worth of pictures gone. Great pictures and videos too... gone! Nope! My computer geek hubby fixed it all. He recovered the pictures and most of the videos off the memory chip.

I was so happy. I love my computer geek!!

I Heart Faces (week 3 --joy -- adult)

I decided to enter an adult picture this week. If you haven't checked out i heart faces you are missing out on some great photography!

I choose this picture because I always feel that one of the most joyful thing to see is a father loving his itty-bitty. Colby was only 4 days old when this was taken. As you can see Richard is exhausted, but looking lovingly down as his infant son with love and awe.

What are you buying me for YOUR birthday?

Yes, you read that right! It is a running joke in our family. 5 years ago today, Richard's birthday we got engaged. We were setting up his house for a housewarming/birthday party for him. He walked up behind me and asked if I had everything I needed... I said... "well can you hand me" and yes I stopped mid sentence because I turned around and he was holding the ring box. (I knew it was coming eventually as he'd taken me ring shopping and actually the next day we were going to look at locations for the wedding.) He then told me... Now we both have everything we need (o:

Fast forward one year, I jokingly asked him what he was going to buy me for his birthday. So he went out and bought me a ring pop and wrapped it up for me.

The year after that, we closed on our house the day after his birthday

The year after that, we brought home Blake from the hospital

Last year, well his birthday is now lost in the shuffle of Blake's birthday.

But, yesterday I again asked him... so what are you buying me for your birthday??

Richard is the best. He and I compliment each other very well. We are so different in so many ways, but we never let our differences interfer in our love for each other. We've learned that together we are a strong team. He is everything I always wanted in a husband and so much more!

Happy Birthday Richard. You are the love of my life and always will be. I jokingly ask you all the time "what am I going to do with you?" and your answer is true... love me forever!

(almost) wordless Wednesday

5 Minutes for Mom is hosting another photo contest. This one is sponsored by Prego (they are giving away a $500 gift card to your local grocery store). You need to post a pictures of food, families and fun. Blake is working on eating cereal with milk on a spoon... this day he decided that Richard's breakfast was better than his own! But, I'm not sure he was too thrilled with me taking his picture while eating breakfast!

Is there a handyman in the house?

Before I met Richard, I lived on my own. I had my own tools and knew how to use them, but only used them as needed. But, now for the most part I don't have to, even though it is nice to know I can do things on my own if needed.

Richard is rather handy when it comes to woodworking. He made Blake's bed, which you've seen pics of in the past and he made our bed as well as assorted other things in the garage and in the house. His latest projects have been for the boys (ok so Blake's the only one who can utilize them right now, but Colby will soon too)

The first is something that I really wanted him to make... we are calling it the "kid holder". Blake loves to help out in the kitchen, but Richard doesn't like him standing on chairs. (Me... well I'm vertically challenged so I grew up standing on chairs all the time, and still do, so it doesn't bug me as much)

So here it is...

The second thing is the sandbox (which is Blake's birthday present!)

I don't always let him know how much I appreciate the big and little things he does to help around the house and with the boys, but I know he knows that we love him lots!

Sometimes it's the little things

(sorry the pics are huge, but I don't feel like doing it again sooo...)

As a mom we have to step back and realize it's those little every day moments that make it all worth while. Others see the big changes (starting to crawl, walk, talk etc...), others see them grow, others see the big things

But as a mother we are in the "trenches" every day. We have to step back and look at the little things and realize... it's the little things that matter most

Friday Videos

Watching Daddy mow the lawn is a workout!

Yogurt is yummy (This was after we ate dinner... guess he was still hungry)

I've just started transitioning Colby to his crib, he certainly likes playing in it more than sleeping in it
