splash

Man... just when you think you have had enough fun, life gets more interesting.

Colby and I headed to the grocery store this morning, we had no fruit in the house... strange I know. On the way home, I decided to treat him by stopping off at the park, there is one just outside our neighborhood. When we got there for some reason this time he was fascinated by the retention pond. He kept telling me "splash puddle". I tried to explain to him that it wasn't a puddle. Finally I distracted him enough to go play. We played on both the big and the little playgrounds. He climbed, went down the slides, played on the bouncy Clifford... you know all the cool playground things. Then just as we were leaving he again yelled "splash puddle". This time he took off faster, on a slope towards the pond. I was about 2 steps behind him, but with the momentum he built up and the fact that he jumped at the end while running... yeah he went face first into the pond. And not one step into the pond as I expected him to do... NOOOOO! There is a slight drop off there so he ended up in water just below my knees.

I didn't even think... just ran in the water and pulled him up. He was fine, coughing a bit and shaking, but fine. Me... well I was fine until I sat down then I started shaking. Never a fun thing.

We relaxed a minute or two on the bank of the pond. I actually called Richard while we were calming down. Then took him to the car and stripped him down and into a clean diaper. Came home and tossed him in the tub then put him down for a nap. Then changed all my clothes... hmmm I might need a nap too after that!

  1. Oh my! Thank God that everything is okay - that's really scary! Do they not have a barricade around it? I say some letter writing and phone calls might be in order here. You should relax and get a nap, too!

  2. Oh my heavens! Talk about getting your blood moving, I would have been shaking too. Glad you were right there and that all is well. I think he might think twice now, eh?
