updates on us

First I want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my post, What gives you the right, on Thursday. It is amazing how many people have endured the same or similar treatment in the past. It humbles me to read your words of encouragement and the fact that so many of you truly care about the effect these people are having on Blake. We can only hope that people will learn to censor themselves in front of children.

Blake is sleeping in his own bed at night and nap time! He is now taking naps for a bit over an hour to two hours some days. One thing we figured out was that he needed the room to be darker. We put up a temporary solution, and my mom bought him new curtains for his room to help with this issue (Thanks Mom!). Getting to sleep is still a bit of a game, but that is getting better too.

His teeth are still bothering him. He has 1 molar that is totally through the gum, 1 that is partially through and the other 2 yeah they aren't ready to bust through yet. So this isn't done yet! One challenge this has created is my picky eater is now pickier because he doesn't want to chew in the back of his mouth. Oh well... this too shall pass!

We aren't working on potty training yet. I was working with him on getting used to sitting on the toilet a few times a day, but he hasn't wanted to do that the last few days. We have a busy few weeks so we're waiting until that happens and now that the weather is getting better it will make life easier too. (I received the no-cry potty training solution book from Elizabeth Pantley and have read it... I'll post a review on it very soon!) I'm sure there will be a few weekend random thoughts on this as we get started!

Colby's 3rd tooth still has not broken through the gum. My guess is 3 and 4 will be very soon and within days of each other! He is dealing with this pretty well at this time.

He has mastered crawling, pulling himself up and is starting to cruise a bit. He loves to push the walkers to get around. He is certainly at that stage where you can't put him down and expect him to stay in the same room nevermind stay put. Colby is all over the place! The hardest thing is trying to change him because he does not want to lay still.

The other big thing is Colby is beginning to finger feed more and more. He loves to eat fruits and has had pasta and even a bit of chicken. He is not ready to switch off of baby food because he isn't effective enough to consume enough calories still. But, we will keep working on it.

Well that's pretty much all the new and exciting things here... yeah not too exciting! I have a ton of pictures from this weekend so I may try to get a slideshow up for Wordless Wednesday, but we will see... Hope everyone had a fun filled weekend

  1. I just realized Blake and Rooney are very close in age. I am not sure why I did not realize that before.. Please let me know how that book is. Rooney does not want anything to do with the potty at all.

  3. I am so glad Blake is sleeping better! Ryan and Colby seem to be right there together. Ryan loves to finger-feed, but also is still on Stage 3 food so he gets enough in his belly to be full. He's pulling consistently to his knees and is working on getting to his feet. He's all over the place here too! The baby gates went up this weekend.

  7. Lori, my 7 and 4 year still refuse to talk to random strangers. If someone ever said something like that to me they also better run in the other direction....

first of all, I don't really want my kids to be cozy with some random stranger and second of all, mind you own beeswax!

  9. I have my elem. teaching degree but I'm currently teaching preschool. We're working on baby #3 and I'm thinking I'll take a year or two off before getting a job at an elementary school. This blog is a good place to be for me!

  11. Allie might actually be ahead of him on something. her top two are about to come through...it's a race to the finish :) She is nowhere near ready for finger foods...she's just now started on stage two and of course right now with her cold she gags half the time. I still can't get her to eat three times a day..right now two baby food feedings is all she will take. I'm going to read your other post..I'm so behind!
