Menu planning

Before I post my menu... I wanted to update you on Colby. I took him to his pedi. yesterday and we've decided that most likely the hives were caused by a virus. Pretty much unless he breaks out again we will never know for sure. Today he woke up with no sign of the hives at all! (o;
We have to give him the Benedryl today and tomorrow and then hope they don't come back again after that. Thank you all for your cares and concerns.

Yes, I know I haven't done this in a while. But, since I'm planning on starting a new Tasty Tuesday segment on Tuesday... I figured... hey why not post my menu plan too??

Thursday: Spaghetti Squash with homemade meat sauce (the sauce is leftover)
Friday: Stoup concoction (I made stuffed peppers that came out... alright, but I need to do something different with the leftovers... so stoup it is!)
Saturday: Buffalo Turkey Burgers with chili fries (watch for more about this on Tuesday)
Sunday: Breakfast for dinner (french toast and bacon)

day 1: Pressed Sandwiches
day 2: Grilled chicken or steak fajitas (I haven't decided which yet... lol)
day 3: leftovers

Never fun!

Well, I had one of those I'm glad it is there, but never wanted to use it moments yesterday.

Over the weekend, Colby was running a very low grade fever (nothing over 100.5ish). We were giving him Tylenol and Motrin to keep the fever down and him comfortable. Ok fine... this could be a fluke, this could be teething, this could be a mild cold... who knows! Just keep an eye on him and wait to see what is going on.

Sunday morning the fever was pretty much totally gone... yeah that's over. Ummm not quite. After his afternoon nap he woke up with a rash on his legs. That then spread to his under arms, then his arms, then his lower legs, then his face. Are you noticing something here?? Yes, there was nothing on his core. Ok again... I'm a bit worried, but he was seeming himself and still no fever. After doing some research on the internet I decide it maybe 5th disease. Ok nothing you can do about that I'll just call the dr. in the morning and see what they suggest.

Sunday night he woke up around 11:45pm and it took us forever to get him settled down. He ended up sleeping on me on the couch for the night. Ok he slept. Still no fever. We noticed that the pajamas were bothing him... ok a diaper day.

I called the dr. in the morning and they said it is most likely just some kind of viral rash in relation to the raised temp. Just keep an eye on it and him. If it changes, his fever spikes, or he has any other symptoms take him in right away.

In typical child fashion... he was fine until after the dr.'s office closed. Around 5:30 the rash on his legs began getting blueish and he was not a happy camper. So after trying to get him to have a bit of dinner I changed (I had a lazy wear my crap hang around the house clothes day), got him dressed and off we went to the local after hours pediatric care center.

Colby had a severe case of hives. They were rather concerned since they had changed color and his temp was slightly elevated again. After some Benedryl, a steriod and some tests to check his kidney function, we were sent home to try to figure out WHAT caused the reaction. We are hoping beyond hope that it was a fluke viral reaction.

So, I was always glad that we had the pediatric after hours center close by... but I had hoped we'd never need it...yeah the joys of parenting!

--Side note: Colby slept through the night and just woke up (I had to stop typing the post to get him up). There is almost no hives left... he looks so much better (o:

Rare mommy moments

As a stay-at-home mommy... I'm the one who spends the most time playing with the boys. But, I'm also the one who takes the most pictures (mostly by my choice). Every once in a while, Richard will grab the camera and take some pictures of me playing with the boys. He took advantage of this on Friday. Here are some pictures of the boys and I

random weekend thoughs

Photobucket

1. Thank you all for your prayers and wishes in regards to Blake's surgery... he did a lot better than we expected and has had little to no side effects.

2. Colby has been fighting a low grade fever... we think he may be teething.... oh JOY

3. Trying to convince the boys to go to sleep is never easy when one is crying

4. Playing with the boys is always fun. I love to watch they play and hear them laugh

5. Watching the Tour de France is always interesting, but those guys are crazy! The scenery is beautiful, but they live in such a different world

6. When rocking, soothing, driving around in the car and anything else you can think of doesn't work to get a child to sleep... what do you try then??

7. Getting the power bill after an unusually high temp month is a shock... and we keep the temp in the house a lot higher than most... I can't imagine what it would be in the houses where they keep the temp in the low 70s... eek!

8. Getting a new battery for my camera was a great decision. We could take more than 5 pictures without the battery dying.

9. Having a lazy weekend is always a treat... I'm off to go claim my space on the couch!

Have a great weekend

Friday Video

Photobucket

This is from our trip to Cocoa beach... we were trying to video the birds dive bombing, but didn't get that... thought you'd all like a little trip to the beach.

On a side note: Blake is having his tongue un-tied this morning at 6:30. Please send up a prayer that he doesn't totally fall apart when we get there, never mind when they take him away to have the surgery and when he wakes up and we aren't there... yeah I'm not looking forward to it. The surgery should be the easy part

I've learned...

My mom sent me this e-mail today...
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain

I've learned.... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.

I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.

I've learned..... That you should never say no to a gift from a child..

I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

I've learned.... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned... . That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned..... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned.. That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.

I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.

I've learned...... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned: .... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

This got me thinking... watch soon for a post about the little things I've learned!

new word

Do you ever feel like there is a need for new words? I mean people have done this all through time. Yes, I know that the English language has more words than it needs. Yes, we have too many words that mean the same thing or have too many meanings. Yes, I get that... but there are times when you just create your own word, either for a laugh or for a purpose.

Come on you know you've done it. Over the years some of these words have taken hold. How do you think the word brunch came about? In our house we often have linner too (or lupper depending on the mood).... you know that meal that serves as lunch and dinner/supper. Sometimes these words happen on purpose and sometimes on accident.

On Friday, Richard and I stopped at Olive Garden for lunch, got to love soup, salad and bread sticks. Two older ladies sat down at the table behind us (note from my beach post that I enjoy people watching). These ladies were... umm... shall we say... not tiny. They ordered water with a plate of lemons... yes they were making their own lemonade. Anyway... when the water came they asked for extra napkins. When we were leaving Richard asked me if I noticed why they asked for the extra napkins and I said... no. He then said well one had it tucked into her shirt and the other had it laying on her chest, no her belly, well they were sort of one and the same. So I looked at him without skipping a beat and said... on her chelly?? After a second he began laughing and said... I like that one. Yes, she did have a chelly.

See there was a need for a new word. Come on you know you are laughing thinking of the people who you've seen who's chest and belly as pretty much the same size and well touching. You know those people who have a chelly!

Have you ever created a new word that just stuck??
